Hello fellow makers! Kathleen here with our new and exciting DIY Friday blog series! DIY Friday highlights and showcases beautiful patterns to share and indulge in. Nothing like a great DIY pattern right? For this Friday roundup, we're taking a look at 4 great blanket patterns from four amazing maker shops!
As a pattern maker and designer, I am constantly fascinated by all that I see offered in the handmade community, and feel they are a great expression of our knit/crochet creativity. You design a piece, and then can create and write a pattern for it, which I think is pretty cool! There is no right or wrong way to write one either, it is just a matter of being clear, concise and expressive. I have purchased many patterns over the years and I love seeing each pattern's variety and individuality.
Patterns are also a great way to connect with fellow makers. A fellow knitter/crocheter may not purchase one of your finished pieces, but consistently support the pattern side of your shop business which truly hones in on the community over competition ideology, something myself and OML truly believe in. Early on in my maker journey, I felt like I had to compete and best others to get lots of followers and sales, but have learned that as makers, it is important for us to stand by one another and help each other on our handmade and DIY journey.
DIY Friday will speak to the heart of our journeys and pattern worlds - to both promote and support our work. Each week we will showcase a new DIY pattern theme - cozy hats, mitten, scarves, etc. - and this week's theme: blanket patterns! Blankets are a cozy essential and among my favorite DIY projects. There is something about curling under a blanket with lots of yarn and committing to a piece that no doubt carries beauty and speciality.
Check out these four amazing DIY blanket patterns from Mackenzie of Hanks and Needles (@hanksandneedles), Sabina of Crochet Gallery (@crochet_gallery), Brenna of Brenna Ann Handmade (@brennaannhandmade), and our awesome OML dream teamer Alison of La Reserve Design (@la.reserve.design). These talented ladies are creative and gifted when it comes to blanket making and are definitely a source of inspiration for those seeking a new blanket project or gift!
Does this make you want to get your DIY blanket on? Share your progress on these patterns or email your own DIY pattern that you'd love for the OML team to share here on the blog or tag us on our IG (@ourmakerlife) for your chance to be featured one Friday!
