More than 100 makers attended the Our Maker Life X Canada 2017 maker meetup event in Toronto on July 15. We caught up with some of our OML event crew, Nick Parry and Katelyn Todd, to get a few fun facts about their maker life!

Describe your business in 1-2 sentences.
I am a wedding photographer in the Hamilton area and I frigging love trying to bring out natural and pure emotions in my work.

When did you start your business? What inspired you to take on this project?
I started my business about 5 years ago and the reason was because I wanted to work for myself and do what I love for a living.

What is the most rewarding part of running your own business?
Connecting with couples on a DEEP level (haha) and meeting an insane amount of new people every month. Meeting people is neat.

Outside of your work life, what do you like to do for fun?
I like to explore Hamilton with my wife and baby. I also like to watch Titanic.

What does a typical Saturday look like for you?
As I primarily shoot weddings, a typical Saturday consists of waking up early, getting my gear together, drinking a copious amount of coffee, and heading out to a future brides house to start shooting.

If you had to eat one meal again for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I know it’s a cliche, but, pizza. Pizza is earth.

What does being able to participate in this year's OML event mean to you? (ie, what are you most excited about experiencing in July?)
I’m mostly excited to document all of these people coming together and freaking out over a common interest (yarn and shiz).

Describe your business in 1-2 sentences.
I am a natural light wedding & senior portrait photographer based in College Station, TX who loves serving brides, grooms and soon to be graduates.

When did you start your business? What inspired you to take on this project?
I officially started my business in August of 2015. I was nearing the end of my college career and figured I probably need to figure out what I am doing with my life. I knew I wanted to have something to call my own, to be my own boss, and to serve others with. Photography has always been a hobby of mine, so I wanted to pursue it even further!

What is the most rewarding part of running your own business?
The most rewarding part of running my own business would have to be seeing how far my business has come in just a few short years. The growth that happens in photography and the business side is amazing! I have learned how to become a better photographer and a better businesswoman.

Outside of your work life, what do you like to do for fun?
I love woodworking, crafting and time with my husband, friends, and family! Going to a dance hall is also a fave!

What does a typical Saturday look like for you?
Well if I don't have a wedding scheduled for that day, I am usually sleeping in or enjoying my time with family and friends.

If you had to eat one meal again for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I LOVE food, so this is a tough question. Most likely Chicken and Dumplings.

What does being able to participate in this year's OML event mean to you? (ie, what are you most excited about experiencing in July?)
My best friend, Kathleen aka Country Pine Designs kept talking to me about OML and asked me last year to photograph the event I was hands down "YES! I want to go to New York and be a part of this with my best friend!" Plus, we were able to travel together. I definitely could not turn that down. When I was asked again to do it this year, I could not pass up the opportunity to go to Canada with Kathleen. I am super excited to travel to Canada and meet all the creatives. I love supporting other creatives! Kathleen has taught me to knit and crochet, but it's definitely not my niche. I think I will stick to photography!

Is there anything else about your business or yourself that you want us to know?
I just recently go married, my sweet husband and I are looking for a house to buy in my hometown! I am super excited! We have a precious Australian Shepherd named Cassie, she has one brown eye and a blue eye. She is my child and I have withdrawals from her if I am away.

We're super excited to team up with Nick and Katelyn at our second annual meetup event on July 15! Connect with these amazing talents and support their maker life @nauticalstudios and @katelyntoddphotography

Happy Making!
