Hi makers! Kelly here, back to meet your fashion-loving needs with another round of How to Wear It. Here at OML we celebrate the unique styles of all makers, so get ready to have all the heart eyes, because Talin of The Half Full Mug is going to talk to us about her cozy piece: The Canyon XL Cowl/Shrug/Hood. Talin describes her style as classic but exaggerated. "I love very chunky styles that I can incorporate into my 'cozy trendy' style. For me, it's all about the silhouette, so my cowls need to be large enough to make a statement. I also love playing with layering, so you'll often see me experimenting with pieces of different lengths and shapes." Let's see what Talin has in store for us with her beautiful accessory! "I wear it all the time, whether it's throwing it on for a casual day or even if I'm a little bit more dressed up, I feel that its shape/color/texture are fitting for various types of contexts. It's super chunky and has a lot of length to give it that 'stacked' look." The Casual "This is a typical outfit I'd wear going out the door. I love layering with various sizes of clothing and textures; my look usually doesn't feel complete until I throw my cowl on. I love this cowl because it's neutral enough to go over anything I throw on, and versatile enough that I can use it to cover my chest, pull it down over my shoulders or even wear it as a hood." Layered Drapes "Every now and then I like to dress it up a bit, while still maintaining my aim to stay comfortable. I usually layer with neutrals, playing with pieces of various shapes and sizes. In this outfit, my cowl acts as a source of color while maintaining my cozy vibe. I love the silhouette of this outfit, bulky on top, streamlined and flowy on the bottom." B&W with a Cowl on Top "In this look, I treated my cowl almost as a piece of jewelry. I shaped it to make it a bit rounder to frame my head and the piece of jewelry resting on my chest. This look was more about symmetry, so whatever I did on one side, I tried to do on the other. My cowl also acted as a source of warmth for this look, in contrast to the black & white of the rest of the outfit." All photos by Jimmy Lamboy of @thejimblog. Kelly, OML dream team Kelly is the mind, body and soul behind @knitbrooks: handmade modern knitwear inspired by nature’s endless beauty. After completing a photojournalism program, Kelly used both knitting and crocheting as a way to relax after a long day working as a reporter/photographer. This hobby has since transformed into a way to combine her love of creating fashionable knitwear, with her passion for photography, a cozy lifestyle, and her awe and admiration of the untouched wilderness.
Talin is a busy girl with lots of interests and hobbies, but she does know how to stop and smell the roses. As a filmmaker, dancer, foodie, crocheter/knitter and lover of fashion, she is always creating content to some capacity. When she's not producing videos, she's teaching Zumba®, conducting a style photoshoot in the street, sipping on coffee at a local coffeehouse, swooning over chunky knits, or planning for her next creative collaboration. Among all of her scattered interests, Talin realized and embraced the importance of living in the present and learning how to savor moments among all the chaos, which sparked the birth of The Half Full Mug, a lifestyle blog centered around living a cozy life, seeing things as “half full,” and learning how to savor moments. She is also the maker behind her etsy shop for her chunky knits, Addy's Cozy Cowls.
