Bringing together her long-lived passion for music and a newfound love of knitting, Xoli Ngcoza, music DJ and owner of Hand Knit by Xoli, shares a new Knitting Playlist and the inspiration behind her choice of music this month. Read Xoli's full story and listen to her first playlist for OML here.
I'm inspired by everything that surrounds me.
This winter season has taught me a lot about being patient and also observing life, nature, weather and people. I'm fortunate to be part of a designer at Workspace Collective and so being around other creative minds has inspired me a lot. Everyone shares something about themselves and what helps them grow. We host different events at the store to engage the community and advocate them about what we are all about. I'm slowly getting out of my comfort zone and learning new things, that to me has been an amazing inspiration. Starting something new and not knowing the outcome of it is truly beautiful.
The playlist I made consists of my favorite songs and a poem I love. It starts off slowly and makes its way to an upbeat tempo. I think it's a great way to welcome the magical season of the year, which is my favorite and also inspiring. I love to dance; I feel like my body has been resting, and now it's time to wake it up and be thankful to nature because it's about to gift us with Spring.
I'm currently working on different projects. I'm knitting legwarmers for myself. I started taking adult ballet, so I thought I'd make myself something special for a change. I also hosted my second knitting party at Workspace Collective, so I have been helping my friends with their new knitting projects. The new thing I'm getting into these days is crocheting. It's a bit strange for now, but I'm slowly getting a hang of it.
I think this playlist will inspire other makers and make them happy as they knit or crochet. It was fun to select the songs from my record shelf and that I'm now sending out to the world for our community to enjoy.
