Hey Makers! Kelly here with the OML dream team, bringing you another QOTW.
Settling in for a session of making, what do you need? What helps you successfully cross those items off your to-do list? What contributes to your artistic groove? What jump-starts your mind so you can turn those ideas into a reality?
As we navigate the waters of the handmade world, thinking and designing and making, we find what works for us and what doesn't. What helps us move forward VS what distracts and discourages us. So, what three things are essential to your creative process?
Maybe you require complete silence, left alone with just your thoughts and your yarn. Or are you someone who thrives when the music is blasting?
Perhaps your creative juices can't be flowing unless the hot coffee is too. Or maybe you're on the fancier side need exactly 30 dark chocolate covered almonds piled neatly in a crystal bowl...who am I to judge someone's creative process.
Me? First and foremost, I need a comfortable spot to snuggle into. Anywhere cushy, preferably with a cozy blanket. If I'm not comfortable, I get antsy and easily distracted.
Second, I love to have some kind of warm beverage by my side. This could be coffee or tea or hot chocolate (I don't discriminate when it comes to my warm bevvies), but it needs to be there. And there it will sit, growing increasingly colder as I become immersed in my current project. At this point I've accepted my creative routine involves several beverage reheat sessions.
Lastly, I like to have a quiet, solitary space to work . Sure, I'll have something playing in the background (Netflix, music, podcast) but nothing that involves my full attention. I very much prefer to work alone.
Long story short, my three creative process must-haves: comfortable spot, warm beverage, a peaceful place to call my own. I'm pretty easy to please!
Here's what Alina of @giftofknitting, Sierra of @knittingwonders, Ryane of @olivesandpickles, and Dorothy of @thecozygiraffe had to say about their creative process must-haves.

Kelly, OML dream team
Kelly is the mind, body and soul behind @knitbrooks: handmade modern knitwear inspired by nature’s endless beauty. After completing a photojournalism program, Kelly used both knitting and crocheting as a way to relax after a long day working as a reporter/photographer. This hobby has since transformed into a way to combine her love of creating fashionable knitwear, with her passion for photography, a cozy lifestyle, and her awe and admiration of the untouched wilderness.
