Hi my lovely maker friends!
Kelly here, back with a new of QOTW after being a little MIA. Like my fellow dream teamer and Tip Tuesday guru Al of @la.reserve.design mentioned a couple weeks ago, I'm so thrilled and humbled by the response to this blog and the work the five of us are doing. Seeking out makers to answer a new question each week has been such an interesting and rewarding experience for me. Even if it's only a brief conversation through social media, getting to interact with so many talented and ambitious makers, and then reading their thoughts on a wide array of topics, is always a highlight in my week. Knowing there are many more Questions of the Week in OML's future makes me a pretty happy camper!
This time around, we're talking about goals.
January 1, 2016 was a clean slate for all of us. A new beginning filled with 365 days of endless possibilities. A chance to start fresh, with shiny ambitious goals and resolutions. Now that we're halfway through the year, it's interesting (if that's the right word for it) to sit back and see which of those new goals and resolutions stuck. What are we still working towards this year? What new goals have we stumbled upon along the way?
Are you ready to reflect on your goals for 2016 and see what other makers are striving for? Let's go!
Time management is not something that comes naturally to me. I've always been the one racing out the door in a whirlwind of disorganization, already 11 minutes late. Although I don't expect to transform myself into someone who is always on top of her life, this year I am working towards managing my time more appropriately, particularly when it comes to stocking up my knitwear for the busy season.
Last year was my first experience as a full-time small business owner. When I left my 9-5 office job to sell knitwear, it was already the beginning of October. Had I prepared stock for the dozen handmade markets I (foolishly) signed up for? Nope. How about a knitwear stash for my etsy shop? Yeah...no. And how do you think that went?
Because I didn't start preparing bushels of knitwear well ahead of time, my entire fall and winter season was hectic, stressful, and almost unmanageable. I was a hot mess. Like to the point where I was literally crocheting for 16+ hours a day, huddled in my office with pieces of yarn sticking out of my frizzy, unwashed hair.
I expect (and hope) this year will be just as busy for me, but my goal for 2016 is to start prepping for the busy season when it's not already busy season. AKA right now, which I have! Although at times it's hard to get into the swing of things when it's hot and humid in the middle of summer, I know it'll be worth it when autumn rolls around.
Here's what Tracy of @grizzlieknits, Ali of @fordexplorerknits, Olivia of @thishandmadelife, and Marlee of @madebymarlee have to say about their 2016 goals.
What is one goal you're working towards for 2016?
What goals are you working towards this year? Tell us in the comments below, or tag us with #ourmakerlife on our @ourmakerlife IG with a cool pic for a chance to be featured on our feed!
If you have a question in mind you would like to see answered by fellow makers, just send us a quick 'OML QOTW' email - we'd love to put together a QOTW with you.
Kelly, OML dream team
Kelly is the mind, body and soul behind @knitbrooks: handmade modern knitwear inspired by nature’s endless beauty. After completing a photojournalism program, Kelly used both knitting and crocheting as a way to relax after a long day working as a reporter/photographer. This hobby has since transformed into a way to combine her love of creating fashionable knitwear, with her passion for photography, a cozy lifestyle, and her awe and admiration of the untouched wilderness.
