Hi makers, Kelly here. It has been a while, and I'm sure you can all relate - life has a tendency to get busy busy busy. But, I'm finally back with another Question of the Week!
As creatives in the world of handmade, every piece we make with our own two hands will hold some special place in our maker hearts. Every scarf we knit, every hat we crochet, every wall hanging we weave, the finished product will (in some way) be an accomplishment we are happy to achieve - hey, that rhymed!
There are however some projects that send our happy vibes into overdrive. Ready to talk about the projects that make us proud? Let's go!
One project I'm proud of completing is my knitbrooks cocoon sweater. We are actually coming up on the one year mark of when I completed my very first cocoon, so it seemed fitting I do a little happy dance.
My knitwear style is simple, and really nothing out of the ordinary. I don't use extravagant stitches or complicated techniques, my yarn usually comes from the local Michael's, and I'm guilty of wanting to make "instant gratification" accessories. My cocoon sweater fits right in with my usual creative ways (easy technique, Lion Brand's Heartland yarn, a project that can be whipped up in a weekend), but it seemed to take me one step further: I created something that was more of a clothing item VS an accessory.
In addition to that satisfying feeling of branching out from my regular pieces (I mean, it was basically a sweater!), this project also launched me into the world of patterns. As someone who has always found it difficult to read patterns and follow the knitting and crocheting directions of others, pattern writing was daunting and scary and intimidating. But it was also exciting, and turned out to be pretty rewarding. Even a year later, it still brings a smile to my face to see the photos of other crocheters making cocoon sweaters from my pattern.
Let's see what projects Ayesha of @dustydimples, Sarah of @thetowngirl, Sari of @sari_n_, and Aurora of @lolaknit, are proud of completing.

Kelly is the mind, body and soul behind @knitbrooks: handmade modern knitwear inspired by nature’s endless beauty. After completing a photojournalism program, Kelly used both knitting and crocheting as a way to relax after a long day working as a reporter/photographer. This hobby has since transformed into a way to combine her love of creating fashionable knitwear, with her passion for photography, a cozy lifestyle, and her awe and admiration of the untouched wilderness.
