Hi makers, happy spring! Who says we can’t be cozy when the sun is out longer with warmer temps? Not us! There’s something truly beautiful about springtime - its longer days, its newness, its reblooming and freshness. The Spring Cozy Scarf is a wonderful satisfying knit project with meditative stitches and color blocking.

I recently explored Nina Chicago, a beautiful local yarn store in the Windy City’s dynamic Wicker Park neighborhood. Though I live downtown near Lake Michigan, I absolutely love venturing to Wicker Park. It has a hip hustle bustle heartbeat where you'll find vintage stores, record shops, noodle joints, award-winning eateries, cool coffee houses, and fashion boutiques. Nina’s is nestled within Wicker Park/West Town in Noble Square, an area that also offers a variety of dining, shopping and nightlife options.

Nina Chicago’s first brick and mortar location was the very first place I visited when I moved to Chicago nearly a decade ago, and I love it’s lovely new store. It is modern, bright, perfectly cozy and really sparks your creativity. On it’s lovely yarn wall, I found Movers & Makers which is their exclusive house line, hand-dyed in small batches in Chicago by Kraeo! These yarns are comprised of beautiful hues with tonal solids that pair perfectly with each other or combined with variegated and speckled skeins. I was immediately drawn to the bulky (which works up like an amazing chunky yarn), and its wonderful tonal solids for the scarf. I knew the color pop would highlight the stitches which when paired with the scarf’s length gives a nice neutral knit perfect as a spring accessory. I hope you enjoy knitting this scarf as much as I did - comment and let me know which colors you’re using!

Notes

  • Each row consists of alternating knit and purl stitches, creating a raised ‘bump’ technique that look like seeds. This gives the scarf a perfect pop of texture.

  • The scarf is knit flat and in a simple 2-row repeat, creating a reversible pattern.

  • For a clean scarf edge, knit the first stitch and purl the last stitch on every row.

  • Smoke Daddy is a cool gray yarn, Winter on Hoyne is a warm white yarn, and Subterranean is a spring green yarn.
