Hi makers! Knitting and yarn gives cozy xoxo vibes. In lieu of February 14th, the team and I are sharing free pattern love. We hope you love these legwarmers as they are my new go-to pair!  The Maker Love Legwarmers are the perfect project for on-the-go mindless knitting, especially when you don’t want to overfocus by knitting socks.

I recently explored ReCreative , set in Denver’s beautiful art district.  An impromptu visit, this thrifty secondhand shop is brimming with artisan supplies, full of craft delights, and beautiful yarn, all which truly took my breath away!! I found a bag of a super soft and squishy merino blend, and decided to bring it home with me!

Over the next few days, I squished the yarn and couldn’t help but daydream about cozy leg warmers for dog walks or a good cozy couch sesh. I knew the yarn that I snagged at ReCreative, Scheepjes Merino Soft, was perfect for my leg warmer WIP!
Why this is yarn to love: Scheepjes Merino Soft in the colorway 606 Da Vinci is a keeper, but this yarn comes in an amazing 56 various colors and hues! For this project, you could substitute Category 3 DK weight yarn with similar fiber content. The yarn is bouncy and gives the legwarmers stretch and fabric resilience.

Notes

  • Circular needles are recommended, but opt to knit using the Magic Loop technique, or Double Pointed Needles (DPNs)

  • Review the size chart to choose your pattern size.

  • Measure your calf at the widest point, then choose the size that is approximately 1-2” smaller in circumference.

  • Circumference refers to the width when laid flat all the way around.

  •  Length refers to distance from cast-on to bind-off.

  • If you are in-between sizes, we recommend sizing down for the best fit.

  • To keep your legwarmers stretchy and well-fit, light post-block.

  • Modify legwarmer lengths, based on the provided sizes, for extra slouch.

Sizing and Modifications

Mods are for all sizes.
To Modify the Length:
Adjust the number of repeats for pattern R10-11.
Remove repeats to make the legwarmers shorter, or add repeats to make them longer.

To Modify the Circumference:
Adjust the number of stitches between stitch markers. These are the sections of garter rib stitch.
For legwarmers smaller than the recommended pattern sizes, begin with
size XS and follow the pattern repeat as  established to remove stitches
and decrease circumference.
For legwarmers larger than the recommended pattern sizes, begin with
size XL and follow the pattern repeat as established to add stitches and increase circumference.
Make the same adjustment to the pattern repeat for each of the three garter
rib stitch sections, between the columns of knit rib that divide them.

Adjustments to length or circumference will alter the required yardage and require more yarn than material recommended.
